Assignment #9

For Assignment #9, we had to create a DVD-R or a UDB drive with all of the files of this course on it. We had to also create a cover with certain information on it. Below, you will find a copy of the photo that I used as my cover. When it printed, it printed in a square, cropping off the right, extended side of the photo.

Assignment #9 was sad but was very good to do. Shortly after I post this, I am going to head to the post office to mail in my USB drive with all of my files on it. Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment and found it very beneficial to organize and to see all of my work for this course. It's interesting that for my last assignment I chose a photo from my first assignment; and that photo was of a flower. It's fitting, for everything blooms in its due season, and I felt that I got to grow in my photography experience and experimentation as the course progressed. It was very good, and I'm happy with the progress I've seen in myself.

Assignment #8

For Assignment #8, we had to create an online journal; that's why I created this very blog! We were to upload all of our past photos from assignments 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and now 8. The photos that we had to create for assignment #8 were to be original photos that were unrelated to our previous assignments. Below, you will find all six photos that I put through Photoshop.

This photo is of my church, Christ Church of Clarkson. I took this photo from the front at many different angles and chose this one as the best. It is my first "Quality of Light" photo because of the light that seems to encompass the church.

This picture was captured in Brockport. I took it because recently my cat, Teddy, had to be put down here. I've known this place for many years.

This was also taken in Brockport, on Main Street. One day, I just went through much of Brockport and took photos of various things. I've gone to this place a few times; pub food is some of my favorite! This picture is my second "Quality of Light" picture because of the sky being contrasted by the darks and lights in the right half of the picture; not to mention the main "Stoneyard" sign being lit up.

This picture is of me in my room (back when my hair was long). It's basically the ultimate selfie; let's just face it. Get it? "face it"? Because selfies include people's faces...in...them... I'm not funny...

This picture I took while  in Hamlin, which is right next to my hometown of Kendall. I was taking pictures of the big playground/jungle gym that I used in assignment #6 when I saw a small, faint rainbow! If you look closely, it can be seen in the middle, to the left of the sun. I tried to enhance it somewhat, but it was tricky to. Regardless, it still is a beautiful photo. This is my first "Color Scheme" picture because of the different colors in it and the rainbow.

This may be my favorite picture that I've taken. I photographed my girlfriend Emma's eye. It was already so beautiful, but it turned out even better when I put it through Photoshop and did the burn-dodge effect and the other things. This is my second "Color Scheme" picture, showcasing many differing shades of brown and tan.

These photos were really fun to pick and to edit! I have the workflow pretty much memorized, which makes the whole process more enjoyable and much faster! These photos are some of my favorites!

Assignment #6

For Assignment #6, I went to Mexico!!! It was super exciting! (Disclaimer: I didn't actually go to Mexico...  I just photoshopped myself in the photos from Mexico.) We were trying to collaborate with a school from mexico. I took some of the foreign student's pictures and used Photoshop to place myself in their pictures. The first picture below is the regular photo of me, from which I took the "me" to put in the other pictures.

This is the first, base photo, taken outside my house.

I uploaded this photo so that the other students could edit themselves into my landscape.

These next four pictures I edited myself in:

This assignment took a while, but it was really entertaining and I felt accomplished afterward!

Assignment #5

Getting political, we find ourselves at Assignment #5. We were to go about taking pictures of political things.

This picture (forgive me for it being sideways...) is of my mom after she had gone voting. Obviously, that's political.

This photo is representative of all of the political news headlines that I see.

This is my house! Yay! I chose this because of the American flag flying. It was like 20 degrees that morning, but there was a lot of wind and it made the flag blow prominently.

This magnet on our refrigerator is just another symbol of political stances that are everywhere. One can't even get food without seeing or hearing about politics.

This was a cool assignment to do. The house photo was difficult to take (because it was less than 30 degrees!), but the whole assignment turned out well. My mom liked the house photo so much that she keeps a printed version above her desk.

Assignment #4

Assignment #4 was focused on cellphone media. I took all of these below pictures on my iPhone SE:

For this photo, we were to take a picture of something that is aesthetically pleasing, so I chose my Rubik's cube collection.

"Colorful Cube Collection"

This picture I found to be really cool! We were to use an app on our smart phones to change the look of a picture. So, I went outside and photographed the field, barn, and sky across the street with an app and this is what I got. I realized that it was red, white, and blue, which I thought was creative.

"A Patriot's Sky"

For this below photo, we were to take advantages of the limitations of the medium that we were photographing. So, with me photographing a red, glass bottle, I chose to take advantage of the way the light warps the image to create a unique effect where half of the photo is normal and the other half is warped. The driveway and garbage can can be seen in both halves of the photo, it being warped when seen through the bottle.

"Wavelength"

Stealth was our goal with this picture. The person or thing that was the subject matter of the picture were not to know that they were being photographed. So, I figured that even if my turtle, Bentley, did happen to glance in my direction, he would have a far too little mental capacity to comprehend what I was doing. Nonetheless, I snapped this picture of my turtle basking on his rock under his sun lamp.

"Basking Bentley"

This was one of my favorite assignments!

Assignment #2

Assignment #2 was focused on making professional cards. For the first one, I took my photo from Assignment #1, and the second photo was an experiment picture that I took while trying to do Assignment #1. Both were taken outside of my house. Each of these cards has been edited. There are the normal cards, the lighter cards, and the darker cards:

Assignment #1

Assignment #1 was focused on different types of photos. A slow shutter speed was used to take the first picture of my brother's car driving by. A fast shutter speed was used for the second picture of the Styrofoam airplane. I took the flowers photo down by the Kendall track near my house. It was showing great depth of field. Finally, the last photo is my favorite for this assignment. It was taken right outside my house and it shows a shallow depth of field.
